Jennifer Bates
Jennifer Bates grew up in Dutchess County, attended Arlington High School and went to Dutchess County Technical Institute for their licensed Cosmetology Program. She is married and has a sixteen year old son.
Jennifer established Cartier’s Hair Design in the Spring of 1999. Cartier’s is a full service salon. After going through the personal experience of having a loved one diagnosed with cancer, she established services for cancer patients and clients with medical conditions that have resulted in the loss of their hair. She has created a room in her salon where she meets with these clients and sells wigs, hairpieces, scarves, and turbans.
Jennifer has been a volunteer for the American Cancer Society for twelve years. She teaches the “Look Good Feel Better” program — a free national program that offers make-up lessons for those clients who are undergoing or have undergone radiation and/or chemotherapy treatments, who have damaged skin pigmentation and/or experienced the loss of their eyebrows and eyelashes. She also has worked with the American Cancer Society to maintain a wig bank in her own personal salon. This program is for underprivileged patients who qualify to receive a donated wig.
Jennifer’s salon is an active participant with the Locks of Love Program and Pantene Great Lengths Program. She found a wig manufacturer in New York City that uses the hair provided to them to make personalized wigs. She also has made Cartier’s a provider of prosthetic pieces (wigs and hair pieces) under the Empire Blue Cross & Blue Shield Insurance Program. She has familiarized herself with insurance practices and can answer any questions and assist with expediting the reimbursement process.
She established La Boutique, a store located in the Dyson Center at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. La Boutique sells wigs, hats, scarves, and turbans for cancer patients.
Jennifer continues to maintain the full service salon, Cartier’s, and is very appreciative of her team. When asked who Jennifer’s favorite charity was she replied, “They all are! The energy level, the strength from these women is what I love about them.”
